oh you know it, max! (max is ein's homeboy! they've run into each other a cpl of times!) i'm gonna have to agree with rudy and stephanie that the mcallister dog park would be the closest. we're about to move but we're right next to the med. center and that's the one we go to. oh how cool, another melissa with a corgi! i was telling max's parents that since we've got our house we'll just have to organize a corgi meet up real soon!

As of now there are only two dog parks - McAllister Dog Park and Pearsall Dog Park. ...(a new third one is being built)

McAllister is by the airport (northside) and Pearsall is on the Southwest I believe. McAllister may be a lil closer to the Med center - we actually live a lil NW of the Med center and go to McAllister Dog Park just about every wkd. No official corgi meet ups yet but hopefully we can get organize one in July and we occasionally run into other corgis at the dog park.

Hello fellow south Texan Corgi lovers! I live in Corpus Christi, TX.
I own 3 awesome Corgis,

Oliver (Red and white male), Muffin (Red and white female) and my newest addition Ashaya (Black headed Tri female).

i am also a prey model raw feeder.

I am looking to start agility and obedience training, once i get some free time. Anyone else into that?

Fiesta Pooch Parade pics are up in my profile. It was a blast, tons of dogs everywhere in pretty funny costumes.

Here's some more info on the new dog park in Voelcker Park. It's going to be called the Salado Creek Dog Park and will have a doggy drinking fountain (similar to those in MacAllister Park), weave pipes, a dog walk, pipe hurdles and a king of the hill (agility equipment that's in the shape of a triangle). Also it looks like there will be a separate dog run area as well. I'm not sure when it'll be completed but it looks like these areas of the park will not begin construction till the summer. Oh and the park is proposed to stretch from Lockhill Selma to Blanco.

About the new dog park-it's way too far away for us but it's a shame there's no seperation for big and small dogs. Big dogs scare my little dogs. It would be like a 10 foot tall person trying to wrestle a 5 foot person. Scary. When we lived in Japan they had segregated dog parks and I thought it was such a great idea. Big, medium and small. So smart! Why we dont' do that I have no idea.

Good question. I think spaying and neutering is the biggest thing. People can always volunteer at animal shelters or volunteer to foster dogs until they get new homes. Food and money are always great too. If anyone else can think of something that'll help feel free to list it. :)

Other than spaying and neutering our pets, adopting from the shelter and monitary contributions are there ways that we can make a difference?

This is so, so important. In San Antonio alone 26,207 pets were euthanized just last year. Already this year 4,000 have been put down. 73% of the animals brought to the shelter last year were euthanized-many on the first day they arrived due to overcrowding. There is rampant overcrowding and San Antonio they are trying their best to control this problem. 100,000 animals a year would have to be spay/neutered to make this a kill free city by 2012. Due to the rally to get this job done last year more animals were fixed but not by enough. It was 21,230 animals in 2007 and it went up to 33,453 in 2008. Animals euthanized in 2007-32,210. Animals euthanized in 2008-26,207. So you can see the direct connection between animals nuetured and animals euthanized. About 5 years ago before the outrage over San Antonio being the #1 kill city in the US there were about 50,000 dogs and cats put down. So it has improved but we still need to do more. Spaying and neutering is clearly the answer. The pound took in 35,000 cats and dogs last year alone. Most of them never make it back out alive. Please consider this when you get a pet-not only adopting from a shelter but definately getting your pets fixed so there isn't as much over population and animals being euthanized
