Please help if you can . . . pass along to other dog lists (I've already sent it to corgi-l and showcardi)

Thanks,
Melissa Bee

Anthony and Debra Pepe asked to post and request that you repost to any 'doggy' lists with members who may live in the area.

Their beloved 3 year old red and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi bitch (in show condition) escaped from being temporarily boarded in the Elkton, MD area early this week, and despite great efforts by everyone, has not yet been located.
She is microchipped and friendly, although undoubtedly frightened (they've had severe thunderstorms in the area which haven't helped with that, or with tracking efforts).
Please remember this little dog and the Pepes in your prayers, and reach out to any other lists in case there are any dog lovers in that geographic area MD/PA/DE) who may still be unaware. Anthony has to return to work in NJ this next week for a few days but will be back in the MD area soon--his cell phone # is 732-713-1709 and you can leave a message with any info or sightings.

We joined our first puppy training class last night, and it's actually called Puppy Elementary, so yep, time to join this group!
Chris, Alyssa and Murphy Comment by Chris, Alyssa and Murphy on April 22, 2009 at 12:34pm
Hi! Murphy has been doing really great with not having accidents in the house, he hasn't had one in awhile, but lately we have been having some issues with him going in his crate. Everyone says that dogs don't like to mess where they sleep. I don't understand why he keeps doing it though. I talked to our vet about it and she seems to think it may be separation anxiety, but if that is what it is, how can I get him to stop? Or is this something that we can just expect and hope that he grows out of it?

JC's Corie Lee Comment by JC's Corie Lee on March 16, 2009 at 11:41am
I'll be the last one to comment on 'potty trainng'. Corie was 6 mo old before I got her house broke. My husband who is retired and home with her 24/7 just let her do her thing. Things finally came together and I put in a doggie door and now she can go out side and do her thing .. even the cat uses the door!

I bought Corie a 'gentle leader' and while it worked, she hates it and can work it off her nose, which tells me I don't have it on correctly or its not tight enough. I just bought the gentle walker? its a harness, but the leash attaches to the front,so when they pull, it pulls them around. She did really well with that. I may have to put the gentle leader back on her and get it adjusted so she can't get it off ...

Puppy Potty Training Help:
Hi all! Okay, so this is not an inquiry simply about how to get Darwin to go outside, it's more about how to get him adjusted to just going out say 5 times a day vs. 35. Over the past two weeks he has done great. Almost every day other day is a 100% outside potty day (the days in between result in one pee on the floor). Right now I am a student, so I am at home most of the day, and then my partner comes home when I go off to school. On Fridays we are both gone. Monday-Thursday, I find that I am taking him out almost every half hour on his request, and if I don't he will go on the floor. The odd thing is that on Friday, when he is his crate for 6 hours straight, no accidents. How do I get him to go, perhaps 4 times a day vs. every commercial break? (additionally, I don't know if this matters, but he goes on at least two walks a day, and we live on the third floor of our condo with no elevators- so he walks down- with some reluctance- and up the stairs). Any thoughts?
Ketura, Shalom and Destro Comment by Ketura, Shalom and Destro on March 13, 2009 at 10:45pm
Also we take Destro out now for about an hour or two before company comes over. There's a great 7 acre dog park in Petaluma (if anyone's from Sonoma County, CA) and he just runs and runs. Then when company comes over, he's tired and plays by himself in his big crate. (We use an x-pen for a crate, it's very convenient.) - This is in reference to Allison Musick's comment back to me.
Ketura, Shalom and Destro Comment by Ketura, Shalom and Destro on March 13, 2009 at 10:44pm
Oh my goodness, we just bought Destro this new lead called gentle leader, it's roughly $17 depending on where you get it. I don't know about you guys but our 8 month old is the worst puller! I never rave about random products but this actually does what it says it's going to and you see immediate results. We've already put him through puppy training (which he excelled except for walking) and we were thinking about getting a personal trainer for him just for walking. I was comparing a choke collar (which I don't like the idea) or this other harness that is supposed to be "at the center of control" but these two women at pestmart said "NOOO put those down get the gentle leader". Let me tell you.. it works! Normally I leave happy and come home mad because of how horrible he is on his walks, but today I was mad at my hubby but when I came home I was soooo happy and SO proud (even though it's the lead not Destro doing the work)! I'm telling you, go get it if you're having pulling problems!
